2022 SMoke Alarm LEgislation Changes

Smoke alarms in the dwelling must:

  • Be photoelectric and comply with Australian Standards 3786-2014
  • Not contain an ionisation sensor (avoid smoke alarms with the Yellow and Black radioactive symbol)
  • Be less than 10 years old
  • Operate when tested
  • Be interconnected with every other smoke alarm so that they all activate together
  • Be hard wired to the electrical supply upon replacement if currently wired that way. You can have a combination of hardwired (240v) and or non-removable battery operated smoke alarms that are interconnected wired and or wireless
